A Letter To My Big Sister Before Her Wedding Day

Seeing you happy on this day fills me with so much joy. You are starting a new chapter in your life and I am so honored that I am able to see you on this day and share this moment with you. While you may be older, I have still been able to see you grow into the woman that you are. I have seen you during the good and the bad, some of those times involving both of us going through it together, side by side, hand in hand. I have witnessed your greatest achievements and those rare moments when you needed a helping hand. As the days whined down and your wedding got closer, it made me reflect on you and me.

Thank you for being you. Growing up, you did more for me unknowingly than you did knowingly. I have looked up to you for as long as I can remember; you are your own person and that is an incredible thing to admire. Thank you for making me smile. Through those years when I was in high school, you were always around to make fun of mom's dance moves and dad's jokes with me. On my worst days, the smiles made those days so much better. Thank you for laughing with me through those times.

I have tried to write this letter several different times, in several different places. I find it difficult to find the right words, because, in all honesty, what I feel for you is an immense amount of happiness. You once told me that people are in your life for a specific reason. Some for a lifetime, others for a season. Regardless, the time that you spend with them all accumulates to who you are today. Being your younger brother, I have been there through all the boyfriends.

Tomorrow is the big day that we have dreamed about since we were as little as I can remember. We always knew this day would be something special, but I have to say, you've made it even more than we could have imagined. I cannot wait to see you walk down the isle in your beautiful dress taking your first steps down a path towards a new chapter. I have watched you my entire life. Looked up to you, followed you, and copied you with basically anything and everything. Even though I feel like I have already welcomed Erik into our lives yes Erik, I say our lives because she was and will always be mine first , tomorrow makes it official.

First, I would like to congratulate you on your special day. The happiness I feel for you is immeasurable. Words do my emotions no justice. This day is yours to revel in the love all around you. Please try to enjoy today as much as you can. Often I hear of people too stressed on their wedding day to even enjoy it.

Today, my sister will marry her high school sweetheart! Not many can say that, but I have a secret crush on couples who actually do this. I think it is very… well sweet to say the least. She has been with her fiance for over 10 years and they have been engaged for a year and a half. Like all couples in love, I have seen them experience their ups and downs.
