This mentality goes to show that what I believe about eternity is one of the most important factors in how I view life. In light of all eternity, how should I look at any suffering that may come my way? Adhering to hedonism can be great until it all falls down like a house of cards. This belief that pleasure and entertainment are the sole purpose of our being can have dire effects when circumstances change. Initially I was shocked.

The longer I live, the more amazed I am by the universe and life itself. Most of us have a certain understanding of the fragility of life, but few of us take the time to consider likely due to the lack of information or interest in finding the information how fragile the universe itself is. No matter what your religious beliefs or views on the afterlife, the inevitable remains the inevitable. And what is the inevitable? Well, assuming that the Big Bang theory is spot on, the universe will rip itself apart the Big Rip in about 1 trillion years depending on whom you ask, as some estimations are as little as 22 billion. Way before that however, in about 5 billion years, our sun will grow into a red dwarf and consume Earth entirely. In case you believe that humans will escape earth or that the dark matter in the universe will slow down and never rip, we now have reason to believe that the Higgs field, created by the newly found Higgs boson, will eventually turn into a super-dense state that will tear all the molecules apart, destroying all forms of life and all large matter.

The sun breaks over mountains in the distance, seemingly casting a spotlight on the young life full of curiosity and wonder.

  1. A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove but the world may be different.
