The author, who sets himself as the narrator, is describing what he sees as he stumbles upon a group of young, neighborhood kids as they frolic along the bank of a stream near dusk time. He points out the extreme care that the children take in creating their lanterns, and he sees the passion and enthusiasm they have while apparently. Walking more slowly and listening to that voice, and furthermore reluctant to part with it, I turned to the left, the fence gave way to an embankment planted with orange trees. The narrator is walking towards a specific scene he wants to or maybe has to, for a college project observe, but I love that he is hesitant to go there because of the singing insects. I discovered that the bell cricket makes its own unique song. Furthermore, there is a temple in Japan where people believe that singing bell crickets, collectively, are the voice of Buddha. Anyways, during my first reading of the story I thought Fujio intentionally gave Kiyoko a bell cricket, but I later found out that Fujio thought it was just another grasshopper; I understood the story better. Fujio is not aware that he has stumped upon a bell cricket and gave it to a girl that becomes excited and jubilant.
