Frog and Toad Together (Frog and Toad, #2) by Arnold Lobel

Frog and Toad are best friends—they do everything together. When Toad admires the flowers in Frogs garden, Frog gives him seeds to grow a garden of his own. When Toad bakes cookies, Frog helps him eat them. And when both Frog and Toad are scared, they are brave together. The School and Library Journal called this beloved story collection from Arnold Lobel a masterpiece of child-styled humor and sensitivity.

Winner of the Newbery Honor award, Frog and Toad Together is a Level Two I Can Read book, geared for kids who read on their own but still need a little help.

Willpower with Frog and Toad

There is a lot you can learn from story-time with kids just before bed. Its a story of two web-footed friends. One is named Frog and the other Toad. Here is a part of the story. Toad baked some cookies. He ate one.

Toad baked some cookies. “These cookies smell very good,” said Toad. He ate one. “And they taste even better,” he said. Toad ran to Frog's.

It was a Newbery Honor Book, or runner-up for the American Library Association Newbery Medal , which recognizes the year's "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children". Frog and Toad Together was adapted as a film. Best friends Frog and Toad are always together. The five stories feature flowers, cookies, bravery, dreams, and, most importantly, friendship. Toad wakes up one morning and decides to write a list of things to do for the day.

And over the years I have come to realize that I am Toad. Or at least, Toad and I have a lot in common. My oldest is almost 15 years old, and I still love these stories. Well, my latest recollection of one of these stories happened recently and I just had to share. It is so difficult sometimes to pass these things up.

  1. The richness of the Frog and Toad books derives not only from their mood but from their willingness to challenge readers with philosophical dilemmas.

  2. In order to have cookies for later, and to avoid some serious belly aches, Frog and Toad need to stop eating cookies.
