The Bridget Jones Guide To Life
In the modern world there are so many arguments over what a liberated woman should look like. Should we want a partner? Need one? I have been struggling with this question recently and watching Bridget Jones has caused me to have an epiphany. The film begins in this fashion. Bridget is depressed about being alone, signified by the iconic All By Myself scene.
Sign in. Bridget : Wait a minute Mark Darcy : Oh, yes, they fucking do. Bridget : It is a truth universally acknowledged that when one part of your life starts going okay, another falls spectacularly to pieces. Bridget : Thank you, Daniel, that is very good to know. But if staying here means working within 10 yards of you, frankly, I'd rather have a job wiping Saddam Hussein's arse. Bridget : I'm so sorry.
But who is the father? Mark Darcy or Daniel Cleaver? So kick up your feet and settle in with the first chapter, some vodka, and Chaka Khan. These are the excerpts from my diaries and other bits and pieces from that rather confused time. But if you just keep calm and keep your spirits up, things have a habit of turning out all right — just as they did for me, because having you was the best thing that ever happened to me. London: my flat. Oh God.
Bridget Jones's Diary gets drunk and sings along to "All By Myself"
I mean, what are the chances that two of the best British rom-com leads have birthdays right next to each other? I mean, maybe the chances are high, but it still makes me really happy. I will go out on a limb here and say that I basically never think men have the right to be rude to ladies, but maybe I am biased here. Regardless, Mark Darcy is such a jerk when he meets Bridge, and though he apologizes later, he should have maybe not been a tool in the first place. And, as Bridget promises herself, definitely do not fantasize about someone who embodies all of those qualities. Raise your hand if you have been with a person like that!
