The Sinner series three promises an even more 'disturbing' case, as Bill Pullman reprises his role as Detective Harry Ambrose in the new season. However as he delves deeper into the case, Ambrose discovers a hidden crime at the centre of the crash which has been the dubbed the 'most disturbing and dangerous case of his career'.

The Sinner is an American anthology crime drama mystery television series, based on the novel of the same name by German crime writer Petra Hammesfahr. Eight episodes of the program, originally conceived of as a "close-ended series", were ordered in January and premiered on USA Network on August 2, In March , the series was renewed for a second season, also of eight episodes, which premiered on August 1, , and concluded on September 19, In March , the series was renewed for a third season. In the first season, Detective Harry Ambrose Bill Pullman delves into the past of a troubled young mother Jessica Biel , in order to determine why she fatally stabbed a man during a beach outing but has no memory of why she committed the crime. In the second season, Ambrose returns to his hometown, after a year-old boy Elisha Henig confesses to poisoning a couple, and learns secrets that the town's inhabitants are determined to keep buried.

The first series of The Sinner is based on the novel of the same name by German author Petra Hammesfahr. The Sinner season one followed the case of Cora Tannetti played by Jessica Biel , who stabbed a man named Frankie Belmont Eric Todd to death on the beach but had no memory of why she committed the crime. Detective Harry Ambrose Bill Pullman was appointed to investigate the case and wanted to get to the bottom of why she committed the crime. Cora confessed to the murder straight away and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder to avoid trial, but Ambrose decided not to close the case. Ambrose called for a competency evaluation, to determine whether Cora was mentally stable at the time she committed the offence.
