Its a Wild Life: How My Life Became a Zoo by Bud DeYoungPursuing your passion includes a whole lot of crap. For Bud DeYoung, thatís about two hundred pounds a day!
Since childhood, Bud had a passion for animals. As an adult, that passion led to the rescue of a bear who lived in his familyís house, then more animals crowding for space, until Bud eventually built an entire private zoo around his home in Michiganís Upper Peninsula.
Along the way, a regular visitor named Carrie joined her passion for animals with Budís. Together they now educate the public about animal conservation, battle the harsh winters and blazing summers, and daily dole out love to the hundreds of rescued animals in their care. Meanwhile, they teach by example how to make the world a better place while pursuing their passion.
Welcome to the fascinating, heartwarming journey of one man, one woman, and an amazing cast of critters, whose stories will warm your soul. Welcome to the wild life of the DeYoung Family Zoo.

Beautiful day in the UP to visit the zoo - so glad we finally got to visit. The zoo is rustic, no doubt. It was a great experience and I reccomend the zoo to everyone. Visited here with small children 2 and 4 years old. Very nice zoo reasonably priced with great exhibits Only downside is the "Sand Pathways" nearly impossible to navigate a stroller. We come here every year and love it every time. My children get to experience holding animals such as baby monkeys, hyenas, snakes, lizards, kangaroos.

They interact with the animals and also offer you One really gets close to the animals. Private zoo that has passionate family members involved along with basically adopted family members. Wear comfortable shoes that might get muddy if it rains as the paths are dirt, gravel and sand.

Beautiful day in the UP to visit the zoo - so glad we finally got to visit. The zoo is rustic, no doubt. It was a great experience and I reccomend the zoo to everyone. I'm not a huge fan of zoos but some family members wanted to go check it out since all the good reviews. My kids were ready to leave in about 30 minutes. The flies were awful not to mention the awful smell. We bought some fed to fed the goats and donkeys
